Last weekend the Laser 4.7 Class had its first ever coaching weekend, held at Tauranga Yacht and Power Boat Club. The coach was Sara Winther, who is the top New Zealand Womens Radial Sailor.
Altogether there were 12 Laser 4.7's on the water. Training alongside the 4.7s was Holly Curtis who has just won the PSA 'Win a Laser' competition and is heading to the Laser Nationals in January at Timaru with her brand new Laser Radial. There is high expectation that in Timaru there will be at least 30 4.7 sailors attending the nationals.
This is the largest Laser 4.7 class ever in New Zealand thanks to a huge push from Steve Roberts from NZSail.com, who were appointed by Performance Sailcraft Australia as NZ's newest authorized Laser Dealer.
Unfortunately, the South Island sailors were unable to attend but are all heading down to Charteris Bay Yacht Club this weekend for the Lunnies Regatta in Christchurch. All being well there should be 20 Laser 4.7s on the start line!
So, watch this space for more exciting Laser 4.7 news from New Zealand!
