Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup due to depart Tenerife

The Transatlantic Maxi Yacht Cup, will depart from Tenerife, Canaries Island, on Monday the 23rd of November 2009 bound for Sint Maarten, in the Caribbean.
Five nations are represented in the race: Argentina, Canada, China, Great Britain, Malta.
Beau Geste, skippered by Karl Kwok is the entry from the Hong Kong Yacht Club. Alberto Roemmers Wally, Alexia, is the Argentinian representative, while Peter Harrison's Farr 115 Sojana is from Great Britain. Valkyrie, Will Apold's Swan 78 is from Canada and Dieter Schoen's CNB 100 racer/cruiser Chrisco is from Malta.
There will be a special competition for breaking the record of the course between the Beau Geste, which had exceptional results in her first year of racing, winning the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Porto Cervo, and the Argentinean boat Alexia, racing for the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, who has on board the crew which recently won the TP52 World Championship on Matador.
A tracking system provided by ASH on commission of the International Maxi Association will report the position of each competitor during the race.
The finish is expected in Sint Maarten at beginning of December.
