UIM F2 World Championship - Colin Jelf grabs Port Ghalib Grand Prix

Colin Jelf, the UK team driver grabbed the Port Ghaleb GP title on the weekend of the 6th and 7th November in the second round of the UIM F2 Powerboat World Championship.

Colin Jelf came in the first place with a speed record of 00:47:59:17, Erik Stark, from the Swedish Getel Racing team driving the boat Molgaard came in the second place with a speed record of 00:48:00:49 and the third place went to Sven Jansson, from the Swedish Jansson Formula Racing team driving the boat Celrici, with a speed record of 00:48:02:64 With these result the winner secured the 20 points of this GP before the next two rounds in UAE. The second place secured 15 points and the third place got the 12 points.

During a press conference held after the race Mr. Abdul Salam Fairooz, Managing Director of Formula World Sports and organizer and promoter of the UIM F2 World & Continental Powerboat Championship 2009, said: 'We have witnessed a successful end for the first round of UIM F2 Powerboat World Championship.The competition was fierce between racers and they showed how a great spirit of sportsmanship and challenge.'

The press conference was attended by the three winners. Mr. Fairooz also congratulated the winners on the achievement and wished for the others better luck in the upcoming rounds. Mr. Fairooz also added: 'I would like to express my gratitude to the Egyptian leadership, government and the hospitably of the Egyptian people and the ongoing support we have received.'

On the other hand Colin Jelf said: 'I am happy to clinch the title of this round. We have worked hard and the competition was fierce. We are looking forward to the next rounds in the UAE and hope we achieve the title this year.

The UAE National is the managing director of Formula World Sports and has been involved in the sport for almost 15 years both as a driver and as a promoter. Fairooz was awarded by the Union International Motonautique or U.I.M the rights to promote the UIM F2 World and Continental Championships for three years.

Formula 2 boats are equipped with 2-liter stock engines generating 200 HP and speeds up to 200 km/h. Hulls of Formula 2 boats reach a minimum length of 4.8 meters and minimum weight of 513 kg, which includes the driver. Due to their specially designed tunnel hulls, Formula 2 boats are able to turn almost instantaneously incurring more G forces than any other racing machine on the planet.

The UIM is the international governing body of power boating. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is also a member of the General Association of International Sports Federations and the Association of the IOC-Recognized International Sports Federations.
