Rio de Janeiro is the latest high-profile City to be added to a growing list of spectacular venues which have signed up to host a round of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.

The International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) confirmed that Rio de Janeiro will host the Brazilian Grand Prix, 26-28 March, 2010. 'It is with great pleasure that we welcome the news of the confirmation of the Class 1 Brazilian Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro. The agreement between Class 1 and EBX Group is for a long-term collaboration. It demonstrates the continued interest from countries and commercial partners from around the world who want to become involved with our Championship. We are confident that as we expand our geographic, as well as our commercial reach, we will open the door to further new venues, especially in this new continent for Class 1,' said IOTA chairman, Gianfranco Venturelli, adding. 'Class 1 is particularly excited about this news and we expect soon also to see some new Teams from Brazil and South America.'

The long-term agreement between IOTA, the organiser and worldwide television and commercial rights holder of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, and EBX Group, has received the full support of the City's Mayor, Eduardo Paes, and will see Rio de Janeiro hosting the first Class 1 Grand Prix of the modern era, with the event being held at Marina da Glória, Guanabara Bay. 'I always wanted to bring to Brazil the most modern and technologically advanced series in the world of powerboat racing. This is the case of Class 1. So I am very happy and excited that for first time our country will host a round of the prestigious Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.

'Also for the first time, the country will host the Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, and the city we love will be even more beautiful with this competition in March of 2010,' said Eike Batista, President, EBX Group
