Herreshoff Designs, Inc is pleased to announce the re-introduction of the Herreshoff Alerion 26. This classic daysailor was originally developed for the last private owner of Captain Nathanael Greene Herreshoff’s 1912 Alerion, Isaac B. Merriman, Jr in 1977.
Only shortly after donating Alerion to the Mystic Seaport, Mr. Merriman realized he missed the pleasure of his frequent day sails and turned to Herreshoff Designs to help him fill this void. The resulting yacht incorporated the classic detailing and proportions of Capt. Nat’s original and was so widely admired that construction on a production basis soon followed.
After a short production hiatus, renewed interest has set forth the latest model which incorporates the same classic styling these yachts are renowned for, cold molded construction, and the latest in diesel or electric powering options. The Herreshoff Alerion 26 represents the ultimate in classic comfortable day sailing as evident from current owners’ appreciation for these fine yachts. The first three hulls are now under construction at the Brion Rieff Boatbuilder yard (www.brionrieffboatbuilder.com) in Brooklin, Maine.
Orders for the 2010 season will be taken until Jan. 15th.
