The New Zealand Boating Industry Training Organisation (BITO) has released a handy new guide for employers involved in training apprentices.
The new Employers’ Guide to Apprenticeship Training in the Marine and Composites Industries has been designed to assist employers create the best possible structure for their apprentices’ training.
“This is part of our on-going commitment to continually raise the quality of our apprentice training programmes,” says BITO’s general manager, Chris van der Hor.
“The guide is full of useful tips and practical advice to help employers get the best out of the training.
“By helping employers create the best possible in-house support for the trainees, it will help the apprentices successfully complete their National Certificates in the allocated time.
“This is obviously also very good news for the employers.”
Chris van der Hor believes these better structures will also help in attracting new trainees.
“Even though we have a record of over 700 apprentices currently in training, we need to keep attracting people to our industry.
“The marine industry is very focused on its goal of doubling in size by 2020 and, to do that, we need large numbers of skilled and properly trained tradespeople.”
BITO is the training arm of the Marine Industry Association of New Zealand and is co-funded by the government’s TEC.
