The Australian Farr 40 fleet kicked off the 2009-2010 season this weekend with the annual Farr 40 Pittwater regatta hosted by Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on Sydney’s northern beaches. Transfusion, owned by Guido Belgiorno Nettis and helmed by Matt Allen in Belgiorno Nettis’s absence won the event with an impressive scorecard of six first places and two second places in the eight race series.
'It was great to be back racing in the Farr 40 class and to sail with the Transfusion crew was a great experience, I’m looking forward to sailing with them again', said Allen after racing.
Racing over the two days was held on Pittwater and the fleet enjoyed tight, challenging racing in a sprint series format.
Three of the four Farr 40 skippers have recently competed in the World Masters Games on Sydney harbour and Martin Hill whose Estate Master took second place this weekend won the gold in the Tasar +45 class at the World Masters Games. Hill raced at the Masters Games against another Farr 40 owner, HRH Crown Prince Frederik who was also sailing in the Tasar class at the World Master Games. Also racing at the World Masters Games were Jeff Carter and Chris Way.
Calling tactics on Carter’s Edake was Nicole Douglass who along with her father is dual Tasar World Champion and Douglass also is on the Australian Sailing Development Squad Womens Match Racing Team.
The next event in the 2009-2010 Australian Farr 40 circuit is the CYCA regatta on November 14 &15.
