Marathon swimmer Tammy van Wisse appointed

by Mike Sabey on 2 May 2002
Club Marine signs on as naming rights sponsor

Popular long distance marathon swimmer and iron woman Tammy van Wisse is to be the media personality behind this year’s 42nd annual Melbourne
Boat Show.

And the Boating Industry Association of Victoria, which conducts the Show, has secured Australia’s number one recreational boating insurer, Club Marine, as naming
rights sponsor of the five-day event in July.
The 2002 Club Marine Melbourne Boat Show will be staged from Thursday 4 to Monday 8 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, just a short walk west from Crown
Casino.

The BIA’s marketing manger, Julie Waddell says,
“We chose Tammy van Wisse because she is the ideal personality to help promote recreational boating and water sports at this year’s Show.”
Tammy grabbed headlines early last year when she swum the entire 2,438 km length of the Murray, turning herself into a local hero of dozens of Murray River towns along
her historic route.
She is a former iron woman, a Royal Life Saving Life Member, was the first person to swim Bass Strait, and holds four long-distance world records.
Tammy says, “I’m excited to be involved with the Show as it will give me the opportunity to promote water safety and motivate people to come and try fishing or sailing or
waterskiing.”

The BIA will use Tammy in its TV, radio, and press ads, as well as daily appearances at the Show, including stints on the Cooking Up A Storm stage and other media
calls.
The week-long event includes Marine Week, which is sponsored by the Victorian Government and is designed to galvanise the state’s highly successful billion dollar
marine industry through a series of dinners, breakfasts, seminars, displays and media events.

The appeal of offshore
Is there still appeal? Have we made it too onerous? Why would someone take it up now? I had been pondering. Yes. Marquee events have no issue attracting entrants.
