2009 World Masters Games - Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik (DEN) was left cold and wet when he was forced to abandon sailing not once, but twice on Wednesday as stormy weather wreaked havoc with the sailing at Rose Bay.
The prince and his sailing partner Chris Meehan (AUS) were among the many Tasar boat competitors who capsized in strong winds that swept across the bay.
'We got 25 (knots) constant, boats with broken sails, a tiger class yacht washed up on a reef and another yacht with a broken sail out at Shark Island; it’s all going on mate;,' said frustrated Sailing Liaison Co-ordinator Adam South.
The +35 Tasar class had set sail in both the morning and the early afternoon but winds and two rain squalls caused organisers to abandon the racing for today.
'It’s frustrating, yeah just frustrating,' said Adam South.
Juliet Pegler (AUS), of Darling Point in Sydney, competed in the +45 tasar class in the afternoon and was surprised by how many boats fell victim to the winds.
'This afternoon half the fleet capsized and the sailors were sitting on their upturned boats,' she said.
It wasn’t all bad for the prince who managed to fit in a practice session with Australian Olympic sailing coach Victor Kovalenko (AUS) after the abandonment of the racing.
So far the Tasars is the only class that has had no competition in these Games. The Laser Rradials class made it through this morning.
The postponed Tasar events are due to begin again at 10am tomorrow at the Woollahra Sailing Club.
