Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik (DEN) was left high and dry when his sailing event was cancelled due to strong winds at the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games on Tuesday.
Strong westerly winds reached up to 35 knots at Rose Bay and conditions were said to be too dangerous for the afternoon events, including Prince Frederik's open 35+ taser class.
'Because of the wind exceeding 25 knots consistently and the waves brewing confused seas, the race committee decided to abandon the afternoon sailing events,' sailing liaison coordinator Adam South said.
'I’m hoping we’ll be sailing tomorrow, if not in the morning then in the afternoon and I’m confident we can fit all our sailing in.'
The gusty conditions caused havoc in second race of the men's 35+ Hobies.
Andrew Wilson (AUS), 45, of Ryde in Sydney, fought the winds and was happy not to have capsized.
'I’m lucky the wind wasn’t a problem for me because I’m fat,' he joked.
'Some of the gusts came in pretty hard and knocked a few of the boats over.'
Rod Waterhouse (AUS) is currently leading the men's 35+ Hobies on six points and Brett Beyer (AUS) remains unbeaten in the Men's 35+ Standard Lasers.
Events that were cancelled today will be sailed on Wednesday from 10am at Woollahra Sailing Club, Rose Bay.
