Chris Ray has sent these images from Thursday's Bridge to Bridge Race, held by the St Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco.

The event is a drag race from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Bay Bridge, and if often completed well within 20 minutes, leaving no room for error.

This year's race was run in very windy and rough conditions at the top changing to light winds at the finish. After leading much of the way, Chip Wasson ran out of wind at Treasure Island, 100 yards or so from the finish, and he and 4 other kiters had to watch helplessly while 2 18' Skiffs went on to win John 'Woody' Winnings followed by his son 'Herman'.
