Anna Tunnicliffe reports on her preparation for the 2009 Detroit Cup International Match Race.
After a couple of days off, we are back sailing again in Detroit, MI in preparation for the 2009 Detroit Cup International Match Race. The Detroit Cup is an ISAF Grade 2 Open event. There are 12 teams competing, nine of which we saw and raced against in New York last week.
Joining me on the team this week are two members of the team from last week, Debbie Capozzi and Liz Bower. Also joining us is Amanda Callahan from Boston.
Today was our first day of practice. We are sailing Ultimate 20’s, a boat we have sailed once before a couple years ago. They are fast, responsive boats, but require a lot of work from the crew. We are sailing with asymmetrical spinnakers, which is something new for us in our sailing, but we figured out a lot of things today and are looking forward to tomorrow.
Racing starts tomorrow at 10am. The forecast is for light air, and a lot of current from the Detroit River. It will be exciting racing with the current playing a major part in the game. You can follow the regatta at the event website

I would like to thank Carmeuse and Gill for their support for this event.
Sail hard,
Anna
