Product of the Week- New LED Downlights

by Blackwattle Studios on 14 Aug 2009
New Hella downlights - brighter than ever, and can be dimmed SW
One of the most critical aspects of sailing is balancing your power-draw against your power-generation, and one of the greatest innovations for the cruising sailor has been the introduction of LED lights, those magic little numbers with the infinitesimal draw. Now Hella has introduced some great new LED downlights

Consuming a fraction of power required to run an incandescent lamp, the new LED Downlights from Hella marine use less than 0.8W per lamp to supply beautiful, brighter than ever on-board illumination.

Employing advanced Hella marine lenses and optics, the state-of-the-art LED Downlights provide intense white light without glare or eye strain.

They're available in a 15° Spot beam angle for surfaces requiring illumination over 1m from the lamps or 32° Spread for soft light on closer surfaces. They can also be dimmed to give ambient light for occasions when a softer glow is appropriate. This is done with another Hella product - ask for the 'Hella 2 Group Light Dimmer'.

They are not hard to install either. Measuring 27mm deep by 75mm in diameter, the Downlights are simple to recess mount and come pre-wired with 120mm of single core marine cable. Requiring just a 50mm diameter hole, they're easily secured with three screws. The rim can be either a polished, 316 stainless steel or UV-resistant plastic rim for exterior use.

They are maintenence free, shock and vibration-resistant, and there are no bulbs of filaments to break, so they really can be called 'fit-and-forget' technology. They are available in 12 or 24 volts. The lens is made from UV-resistant enhanced impact acrylic.

For more information, go to their www.hellamarine.com!website , but they have outlets in Africa, Australia, Europe, North America, the Middle East and New Zealand. For a complete list of distributors, see the alphabetical list below:
