The Rotary Club of Sydney Cove has donated $10,000 to the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia Sydney Hobart Yacht Race Safety of Life at Sea Trusts (SOLAS), from the monies that were raised as part of the annual Rotary Charity Regatta that the CYCA hosts each November. The CYCA has hosted the Rotary Charity Regatta for the past 11 years.
CYCA Commodore Matt Allen recently accepted the donation at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Sydney Cove. Commenting on accepting the donation Commodore Allen said 'We thank the members of Rotary Club of Sydney Cove for their generous donation and look forward to continuing our association with the Rotary Charity Regatta and the Sydney Cove branch.'
'This money is vital in assisting the CYCA SOLAS Trusts meet its objectives of assisting search and rescue organisations Australia wide, providing assistance to immediate families of those lost at sea during Yachting Australia sanctioned races and to foster and fund research and training to improve safety and rescue procedures and equipment used in ocean races,'.
'We anticipated these funds will be put towards the ongoing development of the CYCA Medical Management for Mariners course (CYCA MMM). This course will take those who have done senior first aid to the point where they can deal with medical emergencies where paramedic or medical assistance is not at hand. We hope to be opening applications for this vital course soon,' concluded Matt.
Robert Bruce, Rotary Charity regatta Convenor and former CYCA Director commented on the donation to CYCA SOLAS Trusts.
