2009 Topper Worlds - GBR dominates

by Sail-World.com on 26 Jul 2009
Topper Worlds 2009 Kurt Schmidsberger
After early public unhappiness with race management the 2009 Topper Worlds sailors calmed down enough to complete the series.

Young British sailor Andrew Bridgeman won the Topper Worlds title in the final two races at Ebensee in Austria.

Felicity Foulds (GBR) the overnight leader fell back to third on the final day, Finn Lynch of Ireland taking second place.

Samantha Bonella (GBR) had won the second last race of the championship with Finn Lynch (IRL) second and Bridgeman third, while all Foulds could manage was 16th and the pressure eased for Bridgeman.

In the last race Bridgeman took the gun ahead of Lynch to take the title, with Foulds crossing the line in seventh place to finish third overall.

The series was dominated by Britain who filled every place down to 15th except for second and 12th.
