Well, what a week it has been!

The Pittwater fire yesterday was a drama indeed, with burning boats, cut from their pens and one of those, drifting into another marine, burning two more boats to the waterline.

Today we bring you the news of a superyacht auction. It May 2008, it was worth $7.8 million, what price in September?

Plenty of good news, too, with Maritimo collecting a double podium at the BMW Norwegian Offshore Grand Prix, with Tom Barry-Cotter praised for 'brilliant driving' as he steered one of the team’s boats into second place.

Our ski racers, after a disappointing opening round in the 16th World Water Ski Race championships have started to show the form we know they’re capable of; Queenslander (and #1 Formula I Men in the Aussie team) Wayne Mawer followed up his second placing in round one with a blistering win in round two.

And glamour girl Lauryn Eagle, perhaps ‘slow out of the blocks’ in round one when she finished sixth, has comer back with a vengeance to claim silver in Formula 1 Women,

Of course, the team at Powerboat-World is now preparing for next week’s Sydney International Boat Show and we can now give you the full details of where and when you can listen to some amazing stories from some quite amazing people in the Better Boating Lounge at the show.

This week also I wind up my piece on Boat Theft and give an introduction to the fabulous technology called DataDotdna, just the ticket to frustrate those who might fancy your boat (or some if its equipment) without paying for it.

Speaking of boat shows, we’ll no sooner bid farewell to the Sydney International than we’ll be faced with the Brisbane Boat Show (August 27-30).

Ah well, tough work, but someone has to do it, it may as well be me.

Welcome aboard, enjoy the read and stick close regularly while we endeavour (hey, good name for a ship, that) to keep you up to date on maritime matters.

Of Ospreys, Eagles, Falcons, and Moths
Birds of prey. Insects. All of them airborne? How does it all apply here? Time to find out! All are airborne. The first three are birds of prey. The last one is an insect. All are so completely different. The first three have also had their name, formidable qualities and fantastic reputations applied to fantastic aircraft made by Boeing.

Were the Roos Robbed in Portsmouth?
We discuss the Race 6 Penalty with SailGP's Chief Umpire Craig Mitchell The high speed, short course action of SailGP is thrilling to watch, but inevitably causes tight situations and means the Umpires have to react quickly to decide who is right and who is wrong.

The Ocean Cleanup's 30 Cities Program
A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
