2009 SEIKO 49er Speed Challenge

Speed attempts will be held during the days surrounding the 49er Worlds and Europeans, culminating in the Sail for Gold event in Weymouth. Sailors will try to bet the time set by Simons Hiscocks and Rick Peacock in 2008 at 19.4 knots The new carbon mast and square top mainsail will be the equipment used.

Registration for the event will be open to all 49er Class members. Registration can be made through the 49er website, www.49er.org for a 20€ registration fee.

Velocitek Speed Pucks will be provided to each entry to record the run with verification to be confirmed by a member of the 49er Executive at the event.

Each event will have a winner, and the overall top speed team will be crowned '2009 Seiko Velatura 49er Speed Champions' at the conclusion of the Sail for Gold event in Weymouth.

Overall winners will receive $5,000 USD and 2 Seiko Velatura watches.
