Salperton IV- Latest success of a proven team

by .Fitzroy Yachts Media on 26 Jun 2009
Salperton IV is a product of Fitzroy Yachts, Southern Spars and North sails SW

Salperton IV is the latest superyacht from Fitzroy Yachts yard. She has been built for fast sailing performance as well as sleek aesthetics.

Testament to the award winning success of Salperton III, the European owner again engaged Fitzroy Yachts for the creation of his next luxury sailing yacht. Salperton IV has just been launched in Auuckland. Like her predecessor, the 45 metre sloop has interior design by Adam Lay Studio and naval architecture by Dubois.

Salperton III collected two Best Sailing Yacht awards: having experience and a proven concept allowed the owner and build team to focus this time on detailed refinements. Salperton IV is built for even better sailing performance as well as sleek aesthetics. She is also capable long range cruising. She has an owners’ cabin and three guests’ cabins aft, one of which converts to a gym, while 3 more forward accommodate the six crew.

Fitzroy has a well recognized commitment to quality. This is evident in the carefully crafted negative detail of the attractive walnut cabinetry that is a feature throughout. Other impressive details include custom treatment on imported door latches and light switches. A clean contemporary atmosphere and high functionality was achieved everywhere aboard.

Another noteworthy innovation in this build is the beautiful waxy coated, oyster oak flooring from Schotten and Hansen, Germany. It is the first time this product has been used in a superyacht. Extensive testing was required to ensure all floor components met fire regulations. Salperton is to be classified MCA LY2, Lloyds +100 A1 SSC Yacht Mono G6 LMC. Owner’s specifications for comfort levels were also stringent, with research and testing required for noise levels of all components.

Interest is created in the calm palette with the mixture of materials: selected timbers, stainless steel, carbon fibre, textured hemp wall coverings, and contrasting marbles throughout the guest accommodation.

The expanse of skylights over the large saloon area is a highly successful aspect retained from Salperton III. The skylights send the sense of light and spaciousness down the stairs to the lower levels and connect indoors and out.
Salperton is constructed entirely of 5083 marine grade aluminium. She has a generous beam of 9.3m, a draft of 4.75m, and is a metre longer than Salperton III.

Salperton IV's extra metre on deck gives her greater cockpit area and below a more spacious engine room and lazzerette. This enables a more practical equipment layout.

Another aspect of her careful ergonomic design is the suberb automation systems throughout, enabling touch of a button controls.

Salperton’s 61 metre rig is by www.southernspars.com!Southern_Spars, while her boom is also a step up in profile from Salperton III’s, making for ease of hoisting and furling of the 579 square metre main sail. sail are from www.northsails.co.nZ!North_Sails_NZ

The design and impeccable workmanship throughout comes together to create a beautiful yacht that is practical, spacious and light. Great effort is required to create the kind of elegance and functionality found in every inch of S/Y Salperton.
With commissioning now completed the new Salperton IV has been handed over to the new owner and she has departed New Zealand for a three month Pacific cruise following which she will cruise the Caribbean and Mediterranean next season. The new owner and his family will soon be enjoying some very high quality time aboard.
