Top New Zealand Laser sailor Michael Bullot provides this update ahead of the Kiel Week Regatta:

Hi everyone,

A brief email to update you on what’s happening over the next couple of months.

As most of you probably know. the Kieler Woche World Cup (Kiel, Germany) starts tomorrow. The lead up to this regatta has gone extremely well, aside from a small hiccup involving my luggage disappearing into the Bermuda Triangle that is Heathrow airport for a few days. Unfortunately, this bag contained all my clothes and sailing gear, making my scheduled training (and dressing well) impossible. Although it wasn’t the ideal way to start the trip, it eventually showed up and I’m now feeling very positive about the regatta ahead.

My last month and a half has been spent back home in Auckland. Training went well over that period in preparation for the ‘business’ end of the year - meaning the next 2½ months leading up to the Worlds in August.

Clifton and I have put a pretty solid buildup plan in place leading up to the Worlds, including sailing in some good practice regattas to work on areas needing focus. I also have a 2 week stint on Lake Garda with four of my training partners, including the current world champion Tom Slingsby.

The plan in brief from here is as follows:

Kieler Woche World Cup (20-25 June): www.kieler-woche.de/eng/englishdefault.php

Wandemunder Sailing Week (6-12 July): www.warnemuender-woche.de

Training in Riva, Lake Garda (10-26 July)

Laser European Championships (1 – 8 August): www.nordicweek.se

Laser World Championships ( 19 – 26 August): http://can09.laserinternational.org/

And on that note, I have to get going; I have a boat to sort out now that all my gear has finally arrived….

Cheers and thanks for your continued support,

Mike
