Fiji Tourism targets luxury yachts

The tourism industry is looking at the super yacht sector to boost the cruise ship contribution to the economy, says Tourism Fiji CEO Josefa Tuamoto. He said this sector would also help with the spread of the dollar and assist those in remote areas.
'We encourage the spread of the dollar so with passengers on a cruise ship spending in Savusavu or islands in the Yasawas, that would really impact the economy,' Mr Tuamoto said.
Speaking to overseas journalists, he said the industry spent a lot of money trying to dispel 'myths' in Australia and New Zealand about Fiji after the January floods.
He said he was encouraged by the Bula Tourism Exchange turnout because it allowed buyers and sellers to meet and network on how they could improve business and productivity with mutual long-term benefits to Fiji's industry.
