Product of the Week- Emergency Shroud Kit

by BW Media on 30 May 2009
Emergency shroud kit and instructions SW
Do you have a spare shroud on board? Every yacht owner going on a journey needs to strike a balance between loading the boat so much that it becomes sluggish and slow and being caught in a remote location without the part that you really need.

This makes every decision about what to carry a critical one.

That's why we've made Colligo Marine's Emergency Shroud Kit the product of the week:

Spare shrouds and stays which are weighty and difficult to stow are therefore rarely included in the inventory of a cruising vessel.

However, if you lose one on passage it presents a critical situation which must be fixed immediately. It is a tricky procedure to jury rig one whilst at sea, but it may make the difference between saving your mast and and having it come crashing down around your head. The thought of that is prone to send the most reluctant sailor up the mast to make a repair.

The kit comes in a sealed plastic bag containing enough Dynex line to replace either a 50ft or a 65ft stay or shroud, according to the size that you choose. It comes complete with a line terminator ready-spliced to one end. Another line terminator is provided with splicing instructions, together with enough lashing line and a short length of tube for chafe protection.

Colligo say that with this system a shroud can be replaced in about 15 minutes. It's not a thing anyone wants to do at sea, but it could turn out to be the best of the available options.

The Kit Contains:

1 unspliced, Line Terminator™.
71 ft, 9mm, 24,000 lb Breaking Strength, Synthetic
12 strand line (Dynex Dux) with a Terminator™ spliced on one end.
20 feet of Lashing line for lashing both ends.
6 Inch piece of chafe protection for spreader ends
Fids for Splicing.
Easy, water resistant, splicing instructions.
Water resistant 15” x 12” x 3” package.
