The Aegean A60 enclosed – the future is now!

by Bob Wonders on 26 May 2009
Up on the plane and running smoothly - buyers are offered a choice of Caterpillar C12 or Volvo Penta D800 engines. Either choice delivers slick performance and fuel efficiency. Maritimo Marketing
Maritimo’s latest release, the sleek Aegean 60 Enclosed, could only be termed stunning, an imposing vessel that makes maximum use of the adjective ‘modern’.

Following on from the astonishing success of the Cabriolet sportboat range, Maritimo CEO Bill Barry-Cotter was quickly into action to introduce the Aegean line-up, essentially a line of boats utilising the superb Cabriolet hulls, but with a stylised flying bridge added.

The Aegean 60 Enclosed, however, is more than simply an Aegean 60 with its ‘bridge covered; it’s an entirely new vessel with an innovative internal layout making a substantial difference.

Barry-Cotter believes it will emerge as the company’s #1 boat on the sales graph.

'I can’t offer proof of that, with only one deposit taken and the boat being brand new to the market, but that’s my personal opinion,' he explained.

To label a boat as being ‘European styled’ has become a common term employed by local boat manufacturers.

With the Aegean 60 Enclosed perhaps European boat builders are going to claim their boats are ‘Maritimo styled’ such is the impact this outstanding creation will have on the market.

The Maritimo dealer network has been touring the company’s manufacturing facility recently and inspecting the new range of boats scheduled for release.

One dealer had a client in tow who has paid a deposit without actually choosing which model he would accept.

This client inspected the Aegean 60 Enclosed, stepped ashore and said, 'That’s the best boat I’ve ever seen!'

The ‘modern as tomorrow’ A60 Enclosed offers a three-cabin, two-bathroom interior featuring the latest in imported leathers, luxurious upholstery and the finest components and fittings available.

As was the case when the Cabriolet range was introduced, the fabulous, full-width master stateroom with its queen-sized bed and private en-suite is a highlight.

Another double or VIP stateroom is placed forward on the centreline with its own entry to the primary bathroom/head, with a further cabin to port available in single or double berth format.

Each cabin provides ample hanging space and stowage for extended cruising.

The main saloon is an absolute delight; spacious, with huge ‘picture windows’ providing light and 360 degree viewing and when quietly at anchor a comprehensive entertainment system serving the entire vessel.

There’s a Bose surround sound system and a retractable, flat-screen television and DVD player to ensure all the comforts and convenience demanded by cruising boat owners.

The galley aboard the Aegean 60 Enclosed again offers every convenience, even for the gourmet chef, with ample stowage for foods and utensils, a huge ‘fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and a cocktail cabinet.

Aft of the galley, three-way sliding glass doors lead to the expansive cockpit area, where there is also access to the popular ‘garage’ introduced by the company, allowing for the stowage of a tender up to 3.5-metres in length.

One of the more noticeable differences between the A60 Enclosed and the A60 Open can be seen in the internal staircase providing access to the flying bridge.

The A60 Enclosed staircase is aft-facing as opposed to forward-facing aboard the A60 Open.

An excellent central steering position is provided for the helmsman, with ample space for the installation of navigation equipment, engine monitoring systems and marine electronics.

Big windscreen wipers back up by fresh water washers ensure visibility under all conditions.

Accommodation for guests on the ‘bridge is well taken care of with comfortable lounges port and starboard.

Wide sliding doors aft lead to a ‘balcony’ overlooking the cockpit and providing a relaxing spot to enjoy the views, the sunshine and the fresh air.

Needless to say, Maritimo offers a comprehensive range of factory options and for the first time these options extend to the power source.

While Caterpillar C-12 diesels or 715hp have been widely accepted, the company now offers a Volvo-Penta option in the form of the D800 diesels developing 775hp.

Another option that has been embraced by buyers across the Maritimo range is the unique and convenient ZF Joystick Manoeuvring System.

Maritimo engineers had considered the POD drive system, but with the ZF system a helmsman has the same ‘turn on a dime’ capability.

Luke Durman, Maritimo’s marketing director, said the company had considered both the IPS and Zeus drive systems, but after extensive evaluation had decided to go for the ZF arrangement.

'We simply did not see the point when our shaft drive design with nine-degree angles offer greater fuel efficiency right through the engine speeds and demand less maintenance than pod drives,' he added.

Just another factor to emphasise the outright desirability of the fabulous Maritimo Aegean 60 Enclosed.
