Yamaha Powers Eagle to New Ski Record

Lauryn Eagle ready to depart Manly Christophe Launay
A new record was set when Lauryn Eagle skied into Manly at 4.02 pm on the 17th of May 2009 having water skied continuously from Sydney to Newcastle and back.

Lauryn is the first person to attempt this record and she can now add this achievement to her national and world champion titles.

'Today’s trip was a lot more difficult on the way back. It feels fantastic to be the first female to do the continuous Sydney to Newcastle and back attempt and the support from everyone has blown me away.' said Eagle.

The total elapsed time for the 222km round trip, without any stops along the way, was 4 hours and 40 seconds, an amazing feat of physical endurance.

Lauryn also broke the current record for water skiing from Sydney to Newcastle in a time of one hour and 42 minutes. The previous record, achieved by Ray Wheeler, has stood for 30 years.

Yamaha Motor Australia, in partnership with Protector Boats Australia, supplied the power to tow Lauryn into the record books. Yamaha selected the top of the line F350 for this attempt, the world’s only V8 four-stroke outboard. With its 5.3L capacity and huge torque, the engine was the perfect choice for the offshore conditions Lauryn and her team were to face.

'We’re thrilled that Lauryn has been able to set a new record. It was a really gutsy effort,' said Grant Binskin of Yamaha Motors.

While the true accolades for the record belong to Lauryn Eagle, her achievement was a true team effort and relied heavily on the reliability of their equipment. Yamaha engines and Protector Boats proved to be more than worthy of the task.

'We wanted to give Lauryn the best possible chance of breaking the record, so fitting the big 350 horse power Yamaha to the transom of the Protector tow boat was the obvious choice. Our part was easy – the true heroes are Lauryn and her team and they deserve all the accolades.'

Yamaha outboards are available through an Australia-wide network of authorised Yamaha outboard dealers. All Yamaha 4-stroke outboards are supported with a full 4-year manufacturer’s warranty and all 2-stroke outboards are backed by a 3 year warranty – standard conditions apply.
