It was a busy day last Saturday 2 May, with five of the six demonstrator Sunseekers up for auction at Brisbane’s Rivergate complex going home with ecstatic new owners.

The unprecedented event featured some of the brand’s most luxurious models, including a 62’ Predator, 50’ Manhattan, 60’ Manhattan, 48’ Superhawk, 43’ Superhawk and a 37’ Sportsfisher – together valued at many millions of dollars.

'As far as I am aware, this is the most valuable marine auction ever to be held in Australia,' said auctioneer and Managing Director of Marine Auctions, Adrian Seiffert.

According to Seiffert, the results were pleasing and indicate that 'the market has bottomed out'.

'In the past 12 months we have seen the market bounce back somewhat,' he continues. 'This is a good time to buy and get very good quality pre-owned boats.'

Contrary to exaggerated reports in the press, the Sunseekers were sold at around $100,000 to $200,000 off their original prices.

The sales were: a 2008 model Manhattan 60 $1.8m (approx RRP $2m), 2007 Manhattan 50 $901,000 (RRP $1m), 2004 Sportsfisher $310,000 (RRP $550,000), 2007 Superhawk 43 $375,000 and a 10-year old Superhawk 48 $300,000 (RRP $750,000 in 1999).

The only boat that didn’t sell on the day was the 2007 model Predator 62, which had a reserve of $1.75m and was passed in at $1.54m. Several interested parties are expected to make offers this week.

Next up, Marine Auctions has a selection of luxury motor yachts, ranging from trailerable vessels to 43’ to go under the hammer Saturday 16 May at Rivergate. Among the brands are Mustang, Sunrunner, Haines and SeaRay.
