The Singapore Sailing Federation has submitted the following nominees to the Singapore National Olympic Council to represent Singapore in the sailing events at the 1st Asian Youth Games.

The nominated sailors to represent Singapore at the Asian Youth Games are:
Darren Choy Wong Loong (Byte CII)
Najwa Jumali (Byte CII)
Chuah Jun Ler (Bic Techno 7.8m)
Audrey Yong Pei Lin (Bic Techno 7.8m)

Darren and Najwa both led the Byte CII nomination event held in mid April winning the boys and girls divisions respectively. At the windsurfing nomination event, the Pattaya Windsurfing Cup in early April, Audrey led the Singapore girls’ contingent in the Bic Techno 293. In the boys’ division, Jun Ler, who has recently been inducted into the Youth Olympic Games training squad, was tied on equal points with fellow teammate Jeddy Tan, but emerged a spot higher on count back.

'We had tight racing in all our nomination events, particularly in the Byte CII boys between Darren Choy and Terence Choo and in the Bic Techno boys between Chuah Jun Ler and Jeddy Tan. It makes a tough job for the selectors when we have such tight competition but it means a healthy position for the sport. With so much depth and strength in the team, I am sure it will drive all standards upwards as we lead up to the Youth Olympic Games,“ said Andrew Sanders, SingaporeSailing’s CEO and Chairman of the Selection Panel.

Leading up to the 1st Asian Youth Games in June, the sailors will be
competing in the Singapore National Byte Championship and undertaking training and fitness camps. “The four nominated sailors together with the entire YOG Byte CII and Windsurfing squads will continue to train together, to prepare not just for the upcoming Asian Youth Games, but also for the Youth Olympic Games,” said Mark Robinson, SingaporeSailing’s Head of High Performance.

With less than two months to go, preparations for the Asian Youth Games are under way. “SingaporeSailing has been working closely with the Singapore Asian Youth Games Organising Committee over the past six months to organise the sailing competition which will be staged at the National Sailing Centre.
We are looking forward to welcoming sailors from up to 18 countries, some of whom may come here beforehand for training and acclimatizing to the local conditions,” said Sanders.
