Sail-World New Zealand- 18th April 2009

by . on 18 Apr 2009

Welcome to Sail-World.Com's NZ newsletter for 18th April 2009

In this issue we have another in our America's Cup 'Off the Record' series, looking at the some developments in Europe.

For those who enjoy the intrigue of the America's Cup, they are a good read, covering the erection of the assembly tent at the Alinghi building facility, a look at the design of the Defender, an update on the first Challenger/Defender meeting and Bruno Trouble.

Don't forget to make your entry in Sail-World's competition to www.laser-sailing.net/sweepstakes_form.cfm?SSid=32!Win_a_Laser, click on the link, or see the entry details button on the top right hand corner of the Sail-World website.

Checked out the http://adsfac.net/link.asp?cc=BMW007.70375.0&clk=1&creativeID=129589!BMW_3_Series? To see the outstanding new features of the latest BMW click on the link or the banner above and download the walk-through. It might take a minute or two for the download, but well worth it. And, once downloaded, can be replayed again and again to see both models, by just clicking on the banner. You can book a test drive or find your nearest dealer there, as well.

The first of the Volvo Ocean Race competitors have rounded the gate off Fernando, Brazil. We have pictures of Telefonica Blue rounding the landmark, at the end of a drag race from the start off Rio de Janeiro.

On the local scene, the Young 88 Nationals and Townson 32 Nationals will be sailed this weekend on the Waitemata. And starting on Thursday 23 April is the ANZAC regatta for 18ft skiffs with four competitors coming across from Australia - making a total fleet of 10 boats who will be racing from Thursday to Sunday.

Good sailing!

Birds of prey. Insects. All of them airborne? How does it all apply here? Time to find out! All are airborne. The first three are birds of prey. The last one is an insect. All are so completely different. The first three have also had their name, formidable qualities and fantastic reputations applied to fantastic aircraft made by Boeing.

The Ocean Cleanup's 30 Cities Program
A look at The Ocean Cleanup and its the 30 Cities Program The cliche goes that one should avoid meeting one's heroes, as there's always a chance that the flesh-and-blood person might not live up to expectations. While I've never met Boyan Slat, I'd gladly take this risk.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
