IHCA recommends Hobie Tiger for 2012 Olympic consideration

by David Brookes - International Hobie Class Assoc on 5 Apr 2009

The IHCA - International Hobie Class Association - has put forward to the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) the recommendation that the Hobie Tiger be considered for the 2012 Olympics. ISAF has now agreed to put this on their May Meeting Agenda for discussion.

It does require the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to grant sailing the 11th Medal for the 2012 Olympics.

The IHCA has done this to offer ISAF a real multihull alternative if the 11th Medal becomes available. The IHCA has shown ISAF there are choices for multihull sailing. The Hobie Tiger has large numbers of competitive fleets in most parts of the sailing world. We know that some of the sailing National Authorities agree with our decision and have also put supporting submissions into ISAF. Many people have written to the IHCA saying the Hobie Tiger is the way forward.

Also the Hobie Tiger is the only multihull class on the ISAF list that can get new sailing countries into the Olympics. This is important for ISAF to maintain new growth in sailing and demonstrate the global power of sailing.

The IHCA will keep you informed of the decision regarding this important decision from ISAF.
