Peter Milne Memorial Fireball Open at HISC

by Class media on 21 Apr 2009
2008 Fireball European Champions - Tom Jeffcoate and Dave Hynes (GBR) SW

The Peter Milne Memorial Open Regatta Sunday 26 April 2009 at Hayling Island Sailing Club. Following the death in 2008 of Fireball designer Peter Milne this event has been dedicated in his honour.

Steve Chesney - 'Peter Milne was a remarkable man who achieved much in the world of sailing, as a designer and latterly as technical journalist. However he will always be remembered principally for the design of the Fireball.'

'In 1962 anything seemed possible in engineering. Radical designs were appearing from all quarters, cars like the Mini and Porsche 911, supersonic planes and of course moon rockets. The Fireball ranks amongst the great pieces of design from that era. Like the Mini and the Porsche the Fireball has never been bettered, tweaked here and there, but the original concept has stood the test of time.'

'I've been sailing these fantastic little boats for 20 odd years. I've have more fun from them and the people who sail them than anybody has a right to expect. I'm guessing that you probably feel the same. So come on down to Hayling, pay your respects to the man who started it all and have a great party as well.'

Make a weekend of it with the Glyn Charles Pursuit race also at HISC on the Saturday. A dinner is planned for Saturday evening.

Entry is excellent value at only £10 to encourage as many Fireballs and Fireballers to take part as possible.
