One of the world’s largest manufacturers of superyachts, Taiwan-based Kha Shing shipyard, is poised for expansion which it hopes will spearhead its global growth.

The Taiwanese builder of the Monte Fino range of motoryachts, is investing US$20m in two new facilities that will operate alongside its two existing sites in Kaohsiung City.

Construction is already well underway at the recently acquired sites on the southwest coast of Taiwan, with completion due for later in 2009. Adding 15,000sqm to the company's facilities, the first new site will be used for superstructure fabrication while the second will be used for finishing. Some 75 extra jobs will be added to the 400-strong workforce.

'The new facilities will be a major milestone in our development as a leading builder of luxury motoryachts in Asia,' says Howard Gung, general manager at Kha Shing Enterprises. 'The recent rollout of the restyled Monte Fino 76 coupled with the January 2009 launch of the first Monte Fino 122 has firmly established our position as builders of luxury superyachts, and these additional sites will expand our product capability by up to 10 additional yachts a year.'

Kha Shing has been building production and custom yachts for more than 30 years and continues to maintain a healthy order book. The company opened a state-of-the-art workshop in 2004, allowing it to build two yachts of up to 40m (130ft) concurrently.

Kha Shing Enterprises has been in business since 1977 and is the largest power motor boat builder in Taiwan. The company builds vessels ranging from 40ft up to 130ft in variety of models and sizes and has sold more than 1,500 motor yacht in 20 years.

In the recent Global Order Book survey by Showboat International, Horizon Yachts and Kha Shing, both from Taiwan came in at number 16 and 18 on the list of Top Builders.

Kha Shing launched the Monte Fino 122 at the end of 2008 and she has successfully completed her sea trials and will soon be delivered to her Australian owner. This new Monte Fino superyacht will be called Masteka 3 and it’s the second Monte Fino for the same owner, who also owns a Monte Fino 96 called Masteka 2.
