In the Vendee Globe, Rich Wilson continues to make excellent speed directly towards Les Sables d’Olonne where he is now expected late Monday or perhaps early Tuesday.

At 1430hrs GMT he had less than 400 miles to go and has been making consistent VMG’s around 9.5 to ten knots. The Great American III has been making 11-13 knots and will shortly pass to the north of Cape Finisterre on a straight line route to the finish.

Winds seem to remain favourable to for Rich 15-22 knots from just north of west for this evening and tonight and perhaps less, backing to south of west tomorrow.

Raphael Dinelli seems to have picked up a little speed after being trapped by the Azores High. He had been very slow between the rankings making just more than one knot at times, but he appears to have escaped and has been up to six or seven knots recently.

Norbert Sedlacek is excited at the prospect of finishing next weekend, probably Sunday, but he sounded a note of caution when he spoke with his team this morning. Understandably, this late in his circumnavigation, he has redoubled his guard and taken extra care, nervous about shipping and any other pitfalls on his final week at sea.

His is making just over 10 knots and has made just over 153 miles in the last 24 hours.
