Island Pilot DSe Hybrid - the first truly 'Green' motoryacht

by Jeni Bone on 4 Mar 2009
DSe Hybrid is a unique vessel that offers comfort and conscience-free boating. MIAA
The DSe Hybrid 12m is a sustainable luxury yacht, which can cruise indefinitely at speeds up to 6 knots while creating zero CO2 emissions using technology that combines diesel, solar and electric power.

You can live on the hook for months at a time using only renewable energy. All your power needs can be met by the 6 kW Solar array, modern batteries and Diesel Parallel Hybrid Propulsion System from Steyr Motors.

It runs using a combination of diesel, solar and electric power and when it goes into commercial production it will also boast wind turbines, allowing it to cruise at up to 6 knots on a sunny day for an indefinite period of time without any fuel and zero emissions. It’s also virtually silent when not running on fuel. If you need to get somewhere in a hurry however, its Parallel Hybrid Propulsion System in diesel mode will move at up to 13 knots.

On-board amenities include a master stateroom with a 270-degree panorama view, a 26' HDTV and a Bose home theater system. Prominent solar panels and wind turbines bestow a heavy dose of ECO-ICONIC on the owner.

Winner of a swag of awards for innovation and green credentials, the DSe Hybrid has too many innovations and features to list. So if you’re keen, visit the site and check out the White Paper on the vessel by its 'mad scientist' inventor, Reuben Trane.
