Reigning Powerboat P1 SuperSport class champion Aaron Ciantar has picked up a couple of off-season sporting honours in his home country of Malta. The #44 Conam Yachts pilot received a Gold Medal from Malta’s Sports Council and won the Team category in the Malta Sports Writers’ Association’s annual sports awards.

Ciantar’s family company – Chaudron Powerboats – built the Mercury-powered Chaudron 41 hull that Ciantar and double SuperSport champion Angelo Tedeschi ran to victory with Tedeschi’s Racing Project team. The pair almost completed a clean sweep of wins in the SuperSport class, only losing one victory in the season-opener in Italy due to a jump-start time penalty.

'I am really happy and honoured to have won the Team Sport Category in this year’s edition of the local Sports Awards,' Ciantar said. 'It is also an honour for the Chaudron company because we have won this award also thanks to the manufacturing and performance of the boat itself. Personally I feel that my sacrifices together with Angelo’s commitment have led to this prestigious award. I sincerely thank all the sports editors, sports journalists and sports contributors who have voted for me.

'I thought it would be difficult to win because the Women’s National Basketball team which had an excellent run of results in 2008. So, we went to the awards ceremony not really knowing what we were up to. Upon the communication of the result I was overwhelmed with joy and publically thanked all those who believe in powerboating. I take this opportunity to dedicate this Award to all the Maltese Sporting public, especially the Chaudron fans.'
