New champion Mark Hillis took the 2009 Magic 25 National crown when he steered Rum an Racing to victory over hot favourite Hit n Run at St Georges Basin last weekend.

Hillis, along with crewmen Daniel McDonnell, Kevin Winchester, Peter Manley and Andrew Irvine could not quite match the faster boat speed of Fred Kasparek’s Hit n Run, but had a stroke of luck when Kasparek took a short cut and missed mark four in the heavy conditions of day one.

Sunday saw the wind abate from the 20-25 plus knots of Saturday to a tender 5-12 knots spreading out the fleet after a tight start won by Houdini (Jason Gavin).

The crews were mixed and varied with ages ranging from 14 to 65, showing that the Magic 25 crosses the age barrier in style.

Final Results

1st 017 Rum an Racing
2nd 035 Hit n Run
3rd 073 Houdini
4th 101 Totally Wired
5th 020 Padme
