Where oh where shall I keep my yacht?

by Des Ryan on 1 Feb 2009
Luxury Palazzo Versace Dubai SW
'Everywhere on the French Riviera is so packed! It's impossible to get a berth for a super yacht! It's the same in Italy, and Croatia is not much better.'

Yes, the super-wealthy around the globe have serious problems too. Well, probably not exactly quite like yours and mine, but still they're problems, and one of these is where on earth to park your superyacht these days.

Luckily, some would-be-super-wealthier developers have seen this gap in the market in time, and more luxury developments including marinas are projected in the near future. Prompted by this emerging tendency, UK Times newspaper has made a selection of some destinations where the billionaires are now turning their heads to park their floating trophies.

Naturally, a residence goes with the marina berth - after all, you need somewhere to recover from too much exposure to salt water, or retreat to if you don't like the company on board.

Palazzo Versace, Dubai(pictured above)
The village occupies 5.5 hectares close to Park Hyatt and the Dubai Creek Club and Golf Course. Palazzo Versace is designed in the typical Versace-style with plenty of marble, gold and silk, swirling patterns and Louis ??V-style chairs. Superlux is available to those who want branded lifestyle. The development features 169 private residences and a hotel with 213 units. The berths here can accommodate at least 30 yachts ranging from 11 to 32 m in size. The marina will be a five-star one. Phase one is open and the cost of a 929-sq-m duplex ranges from 2.5 to 15 million euros.
The developer, Sunland Group, has projected to open 15 more Palazzo Versace resorts in the next 30 years to come.

Royal Phuket, Thailand
Oriental luxury, Zen aesthetics combined to traditional Thai style, rooftop terraces with spa baths and floor cushions for proper relaxation are all found in the Royal Phuket, a resort located in a sheltered spot on the island, which offers a private beach on a small island, a 10-minute sail from the marina. 300 berths have been projected here, 20 of which are for yachts of up to 30-m length. From a total of 390 properties on 30 hectares, 323 are for sale. Property prices range between 413,000 euros for a two-bedroom house and 6.6 million for the largest Royal Villa.
The developer, Gulu Lalvani, has made it his ambition to turn Phuket into a truly luxury yachting place.

Artech, Miami
The completion of Artech in Aventura, a new suburb in Miami, is set for October. There are more than 230 apartments and one, two and three-bedroom penthouses built on the beach line, all with marina views. The residential units have modern, ultra-sleek design. There are 43 private berths and property owners will be able to share an 18m yacht worth 1.16 million euros and beach club membership at Le Méridien Sunny Isles.
And if you take interest in the offer, here are the prices - from 485,000 euros for one-bedroom apartments to 2.5 million euros for the best penthouse.

Eden Island, Seychelles
This is the first freehold-title development on the Seychelles. Buyers gain residencies too. Eden Island is located off the north-east coast of Mahe island and provides 480 apartments and villas built on 40.5 hectares of land with 15 hectares of waterways. All properties face the water and some even have beaches. Every residential unit has a private mooring but some can accommodate yachts of up to 80 m. There is also a commercial marina and a yacht club. You may become the owner of a one-bedroom apartment for 194,210 euros or a six-bedroom villa for 1.94 million euros.

Altamer, Anguilla
Prices in the development located on a Caribbean island here start from some 13 million euros and reach eye-watering 45.7 million euros. You can choose from six new residences and three existing villas - from a size of 4,800 to 7,620 sq m. The villas - designed by Myron Goldfinger - are built to suit. These are vast geometric masterpieces. The marina - to open next year - will accommodate 101 berths, the largest of which will be for a 100-m yacht. Yacht Haven, made by Island Global Yachting, is currently the only luxury marina in Anguilla offering villas that could be the best looking holiday homes on the planet.
