Product of the week- Alcohol heater-cum-stove

by BW Media on 30 Jan 2009
Cookmate Alcohol heater SW
'We can't have run out of gas - you filled the bottles last week in port!'

'No I didn't. I said I was short of time, and you volunteered!'

'Short of time? You weren't short of time, you had plenty of time to have drinks on the next boat'

'Well when I got back I thought you had done it!'

'You thought? O no, no, no. Look at this - we really have run out of gas!'

When a heater or stove fails, when you run out of gas, life on a boat can get mighty uncomfortable. That's why this small portable alcohol aeater from Contoure International can save marriages as well as providing a safe source of warmth that doubles as a stove.

An excellent addition to emergency provisions, and not taking a lot of valuable space, the heater, called a HeatMate, produces 5200 BTU of heat for warmth when the weather is inclement.

Then, Hey Presto! When the lid of the compact heater is removed, HeatMate transforms into a cook top that is capable of boiling a quart of water in just a few minutes.

Safe on board:
The non-pressurized canister system contains a nonflammable wick material that absorbs approximately 1.2L of environmentally-friendly alcohol fuel. Even if turned completely upside down, its unique design prevents fuel from leaking.

Reliable, clean and simple:
Extremely reliable, the HeatMate canister system eliminates the messy hoses and valves of pressurized systems, as well as the tiresome pumping, priming and pre-heating. Alcohol fuel is easily extinguished with water.

Constructed of durable aluminum, heater measures just 30cm H x 29cm W. With a handy carrying strap, the heater-cum-stove weighs 2.4kg.
