12th Phang Nga Bay Regatta, 27-30 January

Phang Nga Bay Regatta 2007 John Everingham
The 12th Phang-Nga Bay Regatta will this year be held during 27-30 January, with some 60 yachts expected to take part.

Nigel Cornick, CEO of Raimon Land Plc – one of the sailing event’s sponsors - said, “Thailand is one of the best places in the world for sailing and is an integral stop during the Asian yachting season. This regatta is perhaps the most spectacular in the Kingdom. We are happy to participate to ensure its success.”

Meanwhile, Caroline Payen, President of the Phang Nga Bay Regatta Committee, said this year’s fleet would be one of the strongest ever competing for six trophies in the divisions of Racing, Cruising A and B, Firefly, Darwin Sunsail, and Multihulls.

Payen said, “the Phang Nga Bay Regatta is hugely popular because unlike other regattas, it follows a course with a different stopover each night. This has proved very popular with sailors, and there is the scenery which has made the region famous throughout the world.”

The event will start from new Ao Po Grand Marina at the north-east end of Phuket and head north to the top of Phang Nga Bay past the famous ramparts of Koh Phansak, the Koh Hong group of islands and James Bond Island, then running south to the secluded island of Koh Yao Noi before heading west to Rai Lae Beach in Krabi and through the open waters of Phang Nga Bay and under Koh Yao Yai to Phuket on the final day.
