Product of the Week- Rescue Tape

by BW Media on 18 Jan 2009
Keep a pack handy for those small - or large -on board crises SW
The damn pup has just chewed up the water hose on the foredeck again, the fuel line has sprung a leak, or you want to insulate an electrical connection; but you're not worried as you reach for the Rescue Tape, because you know how well and strongly it works, cuts off easily, and is never gummy or sticky. The transparent version of Rescue Tape even allows you to see the condition of the repair after it's completed. It sounds magic, but how DOES Rescue Tape work?

First used by the US Military, Rescue Tape is a self-fusing, non-adhesive silicone tape that quickly seals the most common leaks on board - in water lines, fuel lines and hoses.

When stretched and wrapped under tension, Rescue Tape instantly begins curing into one piece of silicone, creating an air-and-water-tight seal resistant to salt water, fuel, oil, acids, solvents and UV rays.

Unlike self-amalgamating tapes or other rubber and silicone products, Rescue Tape fuses faster and at 700 PSI breaking strength, is the strongest repair tape on the market. Resistant up to 8,000 volts per layer, Rescue Tape also repairs onboard electrical wiring, waterproofs electrical connections and protects battery cables and terminals.

With the unique Clear Rescue Tape, handy sailors can wrap electrical connections and waterproof them, while still being able to visually inspect the connection to assure there is no corrosion or damage, view the color and the print on the wiring. This is especially beneficial for coax cables for VHF antennae, or installation of marine electronics.

Rescue Tape takes just minutes or even seconds to permanently fuse together and never comes unraveled. Easily removed with a knife or scissors, Rescue Tape never gets gummy or sticky like duct tape or electrical tape and leaves no residue. Resists temperatures up to 500 F (260 C). Available in eight colors and various sizes for a variety of onboard repair applications.

In 2007 Rescue Tape won a Mario Technology Award, and in May last year, was selected as Winner of the 'Retailer's Choice' Award at the 2008 Hardware Show in Las Vegas.
