Sophie Hunt (Hunt Leather) was one of only two females at the helm among the 100 sailors. - B14 World Championship Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania Hobart Jane Austin
Hobart yachting photojournalist Jane Austin captures the colour of the B14 Worlds.

Sail-World received regular emails about the diversity of its coverage and the great photographs we run.

Today we continue our series show-casing some of contributors.

Jane Austin is a freelance photojournalist based in Hobart, Tasmania.

Jane regularly covers local regattas and has been the official photographer for a number of years for the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania's Sailing South Regatta, the Bellerive Yacht Club's Crown Series and the Derwent Sailing Squadron's King of the Derwent Race.

Jane has also covered the Hydro Tasmania Three Peaks Race, Farr 40 Nationals and the Volvo In-Port Race in Melbourne and is keen to photograph her first regatta on Sydney's magnificent Harbour.

Jane is especially passionate about one design sailing and loves nothing more than chasing boats on the River Derwent. getting close enough to get great shots while just keeping out of trouble.

Scaled downed version fo the famous Australian 18 footers, the B14's provided action aplenty.

'One of the greatest aspects of sailing from my perspective is the simple aesthetics of the one design, especially the perfectly balanced starts. With the technical aspects of the boats identical, I really look forward to watching and listening to the tactics and crew work involved in leading and winning one design races. I am also very intrigued by the relationships on board the boats and the interplay between personalities and positions.

'Covering the B14s has been no exception. They are so fast and flashy, and having met quite a few of the yachties onshore, their personalities are just as vibrant.'

Jane is a regular contributor to www.Sail-World.com and has contributed a number of stories and pics to Australian and international yachting magazines.

Jane's website is currently under re-construction but will be live again in days. Contact Jane on: 0409 458 125 or email janeaustin@tassie.net.au.
