Flying Dutchman Pre-Worlds Strong winds blow out first two races

by Richard Scarr on 2 Jan 2009
FD fleet John Ford
25 to 30 knot winds greeted the Flying Dutchman crews on day 1 of the Pre-Worlds (New Zealand National titles) for the Flying Dutchman’s in Napier New Zealand.

With short steep waves and plenty of breezes some crew opted to stay ashore

Hun 70 a strong contender for the championship was unlucky to break their new Seldon mast at the spreaders whilst sailing up wind. This looked like a compression break at the rivet point on the spreader bracket .

As we write this they have re-rigged a new mast and have been out to test it.

Racing was abandoned for the day with no race's completed.

Racing will take place tomorrow with a 10.55 warning single. There will be four races back to back scheduled
