PredictWind- Strong winds ahead for Rolex Sydney Hobart tail

by Richard Gladwell on 29 Dec 2008
Predict Wind: 29 December Wind strength and direction - Tasman Light PredictWind.com www.predictwind.com
PredictWind's analysis of the wind feeds in the Tasman Island area shows that the tail end of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Race will be hammered by strong northerly and then north westerly winds.

The whole of Tasmania is surrounded by strong westerly winds, with some shelter from the lee of the Tasmanian coast. However as the competitors near Tasman Island the last turning point before heading for Hobart, the competitors will feel the full strength of the 15-25 knot westerly.

Typically these wind feeds are only the average wind strength and may increase up to 10% in gusts and of course the nature of the coast off Tasmanian and give rise to local squalls.

On Tuesday the winds are predicted to increase to 30 knots at 1800hrs on Tuesday evening , 35knots, peaking at midnight, Tuesday night and swinging north for a time before settling back to the north west, and slowly easing in strength through to Thursday.
