Foredeckie's lament- 'YOU WANT WHAT...?'

by Guy Nowell on 6 Dec 2008
Phuket King’s Cup 2008. Day 5. Emma. Guy Nowell http://www.guynowell.com
Anyone poor soul who has done duty on the foredeck knows exactly what is going on here. They’ve arrived at the windward mark, and the last run in on starboard has been fully occupied by a lively discussion about what is needed next – a bear away or a gybe set.

At the end of the committee meeting, and getting damn close to the pin, the bowman has gone forward to discover that the nobody from La-La Land (down the back) has thought to even send a spinnaker up on deck.

'WTF? You expect me to set up for what? And there’s not even a bag on deck? Strewth, what do I have to do to get it through to you all back there? - pole ready, here comes the mark, and what happens now? Don’t blame me, I’m just the poor oaf at the front of the rail who gets wet and makes all you lot look good.'

(Been there, done that, got a whole wardrobe full of t-shirts...)
