Getting ready for this year's Sydney-Hobart? Service your gear before the race, and enjoy staying dry.
Wet Weather gear has become very technical over the past few years, and like any technical product needs to be serviced. What sets Musto HPX above other Wet Weather gear is that Musto uses GORE-TEX® trilaminate fabric.
Tri-laminate fabrics, having an inner ‘olliophobic’ layer (which repels sweat, insect repellent, sun screen etc)
This layer protects the second layer which in essence is the working mid layer membrane. An external third layer Face fabric is then layered on top. This outer ‘face fabric’ is your coloured layer and allows water to bead off if coated correctly. This layer is extremely important as it has tiny microscopic hairs which like animal hair cause water to bead from the garment.
This is the crucial aspect that needs to be serviced as over time these hairs will flatten out. When these hairs flatten out this means the water sits on the fabric (or ‘wets out’). This is a common occurrence and leads many people to people think their garment is leaking. A good wash using our recommended products and warm tumble drier will rejuvenate these hairs to allow the water to once again bead from the garment.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS for Musto GORE-TEX® products.
Cleaning and maintaining any Musto GORE-TEX® products is easy!
Musto uses both HPX and MPX fabrics and these products can be washed in a washing machine at up to 40ºC using Granger’s 30ºC Cleaner – YES a washing machine! In fact, it is the best thing for it!
Do not bleach, dry clean, iron or use a fabric softener. HOWEVER you should tumble dry the garment on a LOW heat setting. The warmth actually rejuvenates the durable water repellancy (DWR) of the ‘face fabric’ to allow the water to bead off the fabric. Once washed, spray on Grangers XT Proofer replacement to further enhance water beading. Regular washing will pro-long the life of your wet weather gear and keep it looking good. (And it is a myth salt water does not hurt/clog or damage GORE-TEX® products in any way)
CARE INSTRUCTIONS for other products:
For all other types of products you need to hand wash in warm water using Grangers 30ºC Cleaner.
Do not bleach, tumble dry, dry clean or iron your wet weather gear. Stubborn stains and grease might discolour the material but on the whole this will not affect its water resistance.
Our garments have abrasion protective characteristics so it is possible to lightly scrub on ground in dirt to help lift the dirt. After a good wash, rinse with fresh water and when semi dry spray with Grangers XT Proofer. This Musto approved scotch guard treatment will allow the water to ‘bead’ off the fabric rather than ‘sit’ on the face fabric.
Regardless of what sort of products you have, a thorough rinsing in fresh water after a sail will always help extend the garments life, as will drying it properly and above all never store your wet weather gear when wet.
