Bruce Huber was the eventual winner of the Illusion National Championship at Bembridge SC on the Isle of Wight. Twenty four competitors sailed six long races over the weekend of the 15 and 16 November in perfect conditions.

With a clean race track outside Bembridge harbour the eager fleet were soon into their first general recall (perhaps aided by Justin Biddle who thus helped a visiting yachtsman arrive in time for the re-start).

Bruce Huber, Piers Thomas and Graham Sunderland were one, two and three in the first flight. They were the only sailors to podium in two or more races on Saturday.

Sunday's breeze was a lighter; less than ten knots. Rudy Jurg regained some form to win race two ahead of a frustrated Richard Ambler who had held the gold spot for two laps. Graham Bailey scored a bronze and James Axtell climbed to fourth.

The 'most improved' prize went to Alastair Speare Cole who sailed consistently well throughout the event, finishing third overall, bettering his fourteenth place of last year by some margin!

The 'first lady' was Jo Downer and the 'first over 65' was Philip Bown (who went well given it was his first outing of the season).
