Join a Tall Ship to Cross the Atlantic

by Bw Media on 13 Oct 2008
Tall Ships Transatlantic route SW
Want to put some more hours at sea under your belt? OR never been sailing but up for the adventure? Next year you could be sailing on a tall ship across the Atlantic Ocean. Not much time off? you can choose a leg of the journey, anytime between May and the middle of August 2009.

Sail training Tall Ships from around the world will be participating in The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009, a spectacular odyssey around the North Atlantic Ocean of more than 7,000 nautical miles following the traditional route taken by sailing ships of a by-gone age.

As crew, you can participate in the whole series, or just a part of it. Sailing in the Challenge will be exciting and competitive … and host ports in mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, Bermuda, the US, Canada and Northern Ireland are already preparing a fabulous welcome for the fleet and trainee crews.

The Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 will be a wonderful experience for anyone with a spirit of adventure, a love of the sea, and a desire to visit new places and different cultures.

Most of the participating trainee crews will be aged 15-25, but many will be older, albeit ‘young at heart’. It certainly doesn’t matter if you have never been on a boat or a sailing ship before … most of the vessels taking part welcome novices as well as experienced sailors.

Getting on board to sail in the Challenge is easy. If you live in or close to one of the host ports contact:
