Hope dawns for those who are out of work, as Darwin beckons. MIAA
Darwin could be the destination for contractors set adrift by the recent sackings at boat builders in Qld and other states.
A Darwin boat builder has put out a call for retrenched Maritimo Offshore workers to pack up their utes and head for the Top End.
According to Territory Marine GM, Darren Ryan, boat builders, welders, boat fitters, mechanics and general labourers are in short supply in Darwin.
Ryan is one of a number of NT businesses calling for Gold Coasters to fill the gaps.
'We've got permanent work as far as the eye can see but we can't get enough workers because of the mining boom,' he said. 'If these boys are happy to relocate they can pack their utes and come here.'
Ryan’s company builds pleasure and commercial boats. When he heard of the recent spate of sackings he wanted to workers know about the opportunities up north.
Maritimo Offshore shed 105 jobs last week due, 200+ jobs were recently lost at Riviera and another 100 at Telwater.
Ryan was quoted as saying Darwin boat builders were losing valuable staff to the mines and had plenty of vacancies available.
Darren Ryan can be reached on (08) 8932 9444 or 0417 036 711.
