Ken Warby and Spirit of Australia SW
An evening with Ken Warby… still the world’s fastest man on water after 30 years!
Australian speedster Ken Warby will give a special illustrated talk at the National Maritime Museum on Wednesday, 8 October, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his amazing and still unbeaten 511.11 km/hr world water speed record.
Ken is making a special trip from his adopted home outside Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) to be with his jet-powered hydroplane Spirit of Australia, at the museum, on this “big birthday.”
He will also take the opportunity to give the museum the wind tunnel test model which aided the development of this special boat.
At his museum talk, to start at 6.30 pm in the museum theatre, Ken will show a film of his new jet-powered hydroplane Aussie Spirit in action and tell why he doesn’t expect this boat will ever make an attempt on Spirit of Australia’s world record.
He’ll talk too about his recent activities in the USA which include taking his collection of vintage Australian speedboats around the wooden boat regattas and other festivals across the country.
Spirit of Australia, the fastest boat in the world, has been one of this museum’s most popular exhibits ever since the museum opened in 1991.
Ken Warby, a keen supporter of the museum who always pays a visit when he’s in this country, says: “Whenever I talk about the World Water Speed Record, I find myself talking about what ‘we’ did, Spirit and me. It wasn’t just me, it was the two of us… and Spirit always held up its side of the bargain.”
Tickets are $20 per person (or $15 for museum members and volunteers) and light refreshments… and the opportunity to meet and chat with the man who has held the World Water Speed record for 30 years!
Bookings essential, please call (02) 9298 3644.
