Racing on Port Phillip Bay today, the Mens 470 produced some mixed results at the Sail Melbourne Regatta.
Two races were sailed late this afternoon, with Mathew and Daniel Belcher (Aust) outsailing their counterparts to place 1-2 to lead the series with 3 points from the Polish pair of Rafai Sawicki/Pawel Nowakowski with placings of 5-1 for a total of 6 points. Currently in 3rd place is Kazuto Seiki/Kenjiro Todoroki (Japan) with 7 points.
Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page (NSW) who are chasing the 470 spot for the next Olympics currently sit in 4th place with 9 points. They still have plenty of time to catch the leaders; the series constitutes 12 races.
The 470’s got underway at 3.00pm today in fresher breezes than the earlier starting classes got and will sail two more races tomorrow.
All classes left in the Sail Melbourne Regatta are able to drop one race after sailing five races in total, and drop a further race after sailing 9 or more races.
