Tingley wins 2.4mR Gold Medal for Canada

2.4mRs await a start on Day 4 of the 2008 Paralympics, Qingdao Dan Tucker http://sailchallengeinspire.org/

Paul Tingley (CAN) has won the Gold Medal in the singlehanded 2.4mR keelboat after a closely contested final day in the 2008 Paralympics in Qingdao.

Tingley won the final race of the regatta to take the ten race series by four points from Damien Seguin (FRA) with John Ruf (USA) in third place. Heiko Kroger (GER) finished equal on points with Ruf, however the USA sailor had two wins in the regatta and this was sufficent to break the tie in his favour.

Conditions were 11-13 kts winds - easily the strongest of the regatta, and testing the seamanship of the competitors in the very low-wooded and wet 2.4mR class. The top five sailors all contested the top places in the racing today, with Seguin and Tingley winning Races 9 and 10 respectively in a series which was shortened by one race.
