Positioned in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Australia’s most popular cruising location, Magnetic Island is an ideal base for exploring the waters of Tropical North Queensland.

The venue for the Sunferries Magnetic Island Race Week, Blue on Blue is a five-star resort and marina conveniently located at Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island’s passenger ferry arrival point from mainland Townsville, and boasts 158 deluxe waterfront apartments, a Peppers fine dining restaurant and wine bar, a health spa, conference centre and spectacular lagoon swimming pools.

The Blue on Blue marina has 85 berths and accommodates mono and multi-hull vessels from 10 to 30 metres. It offers the best in modern mooring with secured access and first rate amenities. Water depth in the deepest berths exceeds 3.1 metres.

Berths are on offer at around $7,000 per lineal meter for a 25 year lease period, this is as much as a quarter of the cost of Sydney marina berth prices and the operator suggest that the Blue on Blue marina berths are the most exclusive, yet affordable, marina berths on Australia’s East coast.

If you are looking for an investment or perhaps a lifestyle change, there are apartments available to suit a variety of budgets. A one-bedroom apartment sells for around $395,000, a three bedroom overlooking the marina with a plunge pool for $1.25 million and a three bedroom penthouse for $2.2 million.

As the only freehold-title island in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, there are only limited opportunities to own an apartment and marina berth on the island, making it an ideal investment opportunity. For those who choose to buy a Blue on Blue apartment and marina berth as an investment, they have the option of choosing to have their property managed by the Peppers Retreats and Resorts Group.

This, together with s providing an attractive opportunity to investors from around Australia. They also have the peace of mind of knowing that the resort managers, the Peppers Retreats and Resorts Group can manage the investments for them.

Local investors are predicting that Magnetic Island properties such as Blue on Blue will experience similar to growth to Whitsunday hot spots Hamilton and Bedarra Islands. Investing in Magnetic Island is being compared to snapping up property in the 1970s on the Whitsunday Islands.

On a recent trip to the island, well-respected financial and economic commentator Michael Pascoe acknowledged that Magnetic Island is beginning to shine nationally and internationally. Pascoe urged locals to ‘look at Magnetic island with fresh eyes’ and ‘not to wait’ if you are thinking of investing despite rhetoric to the contrary about the global economy.

While it has all the attractions of a Whitsunday island, Magnetic Island has a number of unique features: the island offers the only freehold property in the region (all other properties in The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park are leasehold), and, unlike other property-cluttered islands, environmental guidelines mean only a small portion of land on Magnetic Island can be developed.

Over the coming week, you will see many images from this superb Race Week venue.
