Sail for Autism!

Giant Steps Sydney and Middle Harbour Yacht Club invite eligible yachts to register in this year’s Giant Steps Sydney, Autism Sydney Harbour Sailing Regatta to be held at MHYC on Friday, 31st October 2008.

Last year more than 20 yachts competed in this annual event which raised $70,000 for children with autism; a condition now affecting more children than diabetes, cancer and aids put together.

Organisers Anna Trayner and Ingrid Michalowsky, two parents of children with autism, say they have been overwhelmed at the support of MHYC Members such as Jack Stening, Tony Bates, Mike Gibbons, Bill Humel and Gordon Ketelbey who have donated their yachts for 3 consecutive years. However, they still require more yachts, particularly larger yachts which will accommodate 10 to 12 guests. 'Each donated yacht saves the charity more that $1000 in charter yacht fees.' said Anna.

It costs yachties nothing to participate. Set sail around midday, enjoy a picnic lunch aboard and compete in this social, non spinnaker yacht race on Sydney Harbour. After the race, skippers are invited back to the MHYC Clubhouse for a complimentary massage, gourmet bbq and drinks on the foreshore.

All money raised on the day goes directly to helping children with autism reach their potential.

Download the Notice of Race today from the MHYC website or contact organizers Anna Trayner on 0423673279 or Ingrid Michalowsky on 0414499627.
